Physical Description: Ponies are a race of sentient Equines native to the Equestria series of worlds. An adult Pony stands four feet tall, and come in a very large variety of colors, mostly pastel colors. They come four varieties; Earth Ponies, Unicorns, Pegasi, and Alicorns (though these are excessively rare, and in fact be physical gods).

In addition, there are also Changelings and Crystal Ponies. Changelings are not in fact Ponies at all, but a race of insectoid shape-shifters that literally eat love, although individual drones can consume normal food as well. While normally they exist as part of a hive mind, some Changelings break free of the hive mind (accidentally or otherwise) while on extended missions away from the swarm. These are known as “Free Drones”, and are considered outcasts by both Ponies and the Changeling Swarm.

Crystal Ponies, meanwhile, are a very rare breed of Earth Pony that have a crystalline appearance. Not much is known about their origin, and in fact their homeland (the Crystal Empire) had disappeared for over a thousand years thanks to an ancient curse (which has since been broken).

Traditionally, only Unicorns were able to use magic, though after Equestria was exposed to other worlds they discovered that other forms of magic worked just almost as well for earth ponies and pegasi.

Society: The most most well-known iteration of Equestria is Equestria-1. This world has the most influence in the network, and is the version of Equestria closest to The Nexus. It is a constitutional monarchy ruled by Princess Celestia and her sister, Princess Luna. Their societal structure is very similar to that of humans, except that they seem to be very fond of bad horse puns.

Given how peaceful Equestria-1 is today, one might assume that ponies are a race made up entirely of peace-loving pacifists, and that Equestria-1 has always been the sugar bowl it is popularly known as. But if one looks a bit more closely at their history, the truth is that Equestria’s history is every bit as blood-stained as Earth’s. Only after Equestria united under the rule of Princess Celestia to defeat the mad god Discord and drive back the Changeling1 Swarm did things start to take a turn for the better, and even then there was a civil war at one point that led to Princess Luna being banished to the moon for a thousand years before eventually coming back with the intention of destroying the world (she’s better now).

Other iterations of Equestria include:

Name Summary Description
Equestria-2 MLP G-1 Better known as “Ponyland”, this world has very little resemblance to Equestria-1 aside from Ponies being the dominant species and some ponies from Equestria-1 having alternate universe counterparts here.
Equestria-3 The “Evil Celestia” world In this world, Princess Celestia was a ruthless tyrant who ruled Equestria with an iron fist, conquering all who stood in her way. She would probably still be at it if she hadn’t allied with the World Government during the Great War. When cornered, she detonated a “reality bomb” built out of the remains of her world’s version of Discord, destroying it utterly.
Equestria-4 Fallout Equestria At some point in it’s history, Equestria underwent what appears to have been the magical equivalent of a nuclear war. Officials from Equestria-1 are still debating whether they should make an effort to relocate survivors or terraform the world into something less inhospitable.

Relations: Humans and Ponies don’t tend to get along very well. Though they’re rarely hostile to each other, most humans either find the idea of miniature, talking horses somewhat disturbing, or they’re so overcome with squee that they can’t think of ponies as people so much as stuffed animals. Ponies, meanwhile, either see humans as distrustworthy, or they are tired of how humans react to their cuteness proximity. Despite this, Equestria-1 remains one of the more powerful members of The Nexus.

Alignment and Religion: Depending on who you ask, Equestria may or may not be a theocracy. It certainly has divine rulers, but the princesses make no effort to actually acquire worshipers. In some places, Equestria’s versions of the norse, egyptian or greek pantheons are still worshiped (Poseidon is especially popular), and there’s also more obscure deities that are worshiped in isolated regions.

There’s also a handful of cults that still worship Luna as Nightmare Moon, though few of them are powerful enough to take seriously. There were a handful of cults worshiping Discord, but due to recent events most of them seem to have fallen by the wayside.

Ponies can be pretty much whatever alignment they want, and so can free Changeling drones, though drones usually tend towards lawful.

Adventurers: Given the number of monsters in Equestria, there is a very strong tradition of monster hunters.

Racial Traits:

Fast Speed: All ponies have a base movement speed of 40 ft. per round.
Non-Dextrous: Given that they don’t have hands, ponies can only hold one item at a time in their mouths. They can use 2-handed weapons, but they suffer a -2 penalty when doing so with an unmodified weapon.
Languages: Ponies begin play speaking Equine and English. Ponies with a high intelligence score gain one extra language for every +1 in their modifier.
Cutie Mark: Most ponies have a “cutie mark” related to something they happen to be particularly talented in. The Cutie Mark provides a +2 bonus on skill checks related to that talent. In addition, you may choose one skill as an additional class skill.

Type Racial Traits

Sturdy: Earth Ponies have a +4 bonus to being knocked over or bull rushed.
Pegasus Racial Stat Adjustment: +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution

Unicorns without a cutie mark cannot use these daily spell-like abilities, while those that have one can only use them for tasks related for one’s cutie mark.
Gore: Unicorns have Gore as a bonus feat even if they don’t mean the prerequisites, allowing them to attack with their horn.
Changeling (Free Drone) Racial Stat Adjustment: + 2 to Charisma, -2 to Wisdom
Change Shape: A Changeling can assume the appearance of a Small or Medium humanoid or equine as the “alter self” spell, save that it does not adjust its ability scores.
Gore: Changelings have Gore as a bonus feat even if they don’t mean the prerequisites, allowing them to attack with their horn.
Vestigial Wings: Changelings have wings that do not provide the lift required for actual flight, but do have enough power to aid flight attained by some other method, and grant a + 4 racial bonus on Fly checks.
Feed: Once per day, a Changeling may attempt to feed on a victim’s “love energy”. The victim must make a will save of 10+ the Changeling’s character level to resist. If successful the Changeling gains a +1 armor bonus to AC for the rest of the day. Note that this is typically an evil act, though it’s rarely deadly.
note: Changelings do not have Cutie Marks.
Crystal Pony Racial Stat Adjustment: +2 to any one ability score.
Crystal Skin: Crystal Ponies have reflective, crystalline skin that grants them a +2 racial bonus to AC against rays. Once per day, they can deflect a single ray attack targeted at them as if they were using the Deflect Arrows feat.
Crystal Bones: Crystal Ponies have DR 5/Bludgeoning
Trample: Crystal Ponies gain Trample as a bonus feat at level 1.

1 Not related to the Changelings of Pathfinder.
